Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears as he was shown video footage of his dead father that he had never seen before during an interview with Piers Morgan.

The clip showed Jose Dinis Aveiro speaking proudly about his then 20-year-old footballer son, a year before he died of alcohol-induced liver failure.

“I never saw the video,” the Portuguese captain said, his voice cracking with emotion. “I never saw that video. Unbelievable.”

The football star was shown the heartbreaking video for the upcoming documentary ‘Cristiano Ronaldo Meets Piers Morgan’.

Good Morning Britain presenter Morgan looked sympathetic towards the 34-year-old as he watched the clip of Mr Aveiro before his death in 2004 at the age of 52.

Ronaldo goes on to explain his heartbreak that his father never got to see him become “number one”.

“He never saw how great you became,” Morgan says, as Europe’s all time top goal scorer shakes his head.

The full one-hour interview between the pair will air on ITV at 9pm on Tuesday.

It will see Morgan talk to the Juventus forward about his extensive successes, as well as the rape allegation that dogged him and his family.

In a teaser for the programme, Morgan describes the father-of-four as the “biggest star on the planet.”

Speaking ahead of its release, the TV host said: “Ronaldo is a football genius and a global superstar.

“He’s also a compelling character and this is the most revealing interview he has ever given.

“Prepare to laugh and cry and to be shocked and inspired.”
