CROWDS have turned out in force to celebrate Armed Forces Day in Reading.

The town centre was bursting with excitement and energy as local groups and residents joined together to pay tribute and support all those linked to the Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June, falling this year on June 29, as a way of thanking the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.

It also marks the culmination of a week of celebrations, beginning on Monday June 24, where communities stage a host of events to celebrate including Reserves Day (June 26) to recognise our Reserve Forces.

In Reading, the sun was shining and music was booming as a host of stalls were set up along Broad Street and the Reading Scottish Pipe Band put on a fantastic performance for shoppers and community groups alike.

Reading Borough Council said: "The UK Armed Forces work around the clock to protect our way of life and defend UK interests at home and abroad. Armed Forces Day is our chance to say thank you."
