The Crown has dropped a first proper look at season three, and it's found a clever way to reference the massive cast overhaul.

Olivia Colman is taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth II for the next two seasons of the Netflix show, but it hasn't completely forgotten Claire Foy.

In the new teaser clip, Colman's monarch gets a new stamp profile picture taken and she's shown Foy's stamp next to her one.

After being told it's showcasing her "transition" from a young woman, the Queen quips: "[To] old bat?"

Hearing Colman's Queen voice for the first time, she says of the changes: "Nothing one can do about it, one just has to get on with it."

Way to get all meta on us, Your Majesty.

Still, going by this first look we're all for embracing change, which will also come in the form of Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

Another thing that won't carry over from the first two seasons is Claire Foy's blue eye colour, as Colman recently explained that her "very strong eyelids" meant she couldn't wear contact lenses.

"It was basically like an exorcism, 'Just hold me down and thrust it in!'" she joked.

The Crown returns on Sunday, November 17 on Netflix.
