It turns out that John Lithgow won't be in Netflix's The Crown season two after all, despite appearing in the official trailer.

The star of the critically acclaimed hit series was on The Graham Norton Show, promoting the sure to be similarly well-reviewed movie Daddy's Home 2, when he was asked about if he reprising his role as Winston Churchill.

"No, and it's fine with me," he said. "They gave me a fantastic exit, and it wasn't a death scene.

"Churchill's end is extremely moving. A good actor knows a good exit!"

The star also spoke about how much he enjoyed filming the first season.

"I was the only American in the cast and was completely surrounded by fantastic British actors and I was intimidated by playing such an iconic person," he said.

"I thought I would have a target on my back and a contract out on me from every major actor in London, but in fact they were incredibly welcoming and made me feel genuinely more confident."

That's good to hear, since Lithgow's performance was one of the standout parts of season one, we're sure you'll agree.

Elsewhere on Graham's sofa, we have Mel Gibson, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg talking about Daddy's Home 2, Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, and music from Kesha.

The Graham Norton Show airs tomorrow night (November 24) on BBC One, while The Crown returns to Netflix on December 8.
