Seaon three of Netflix's The Crown delighted fans with its updated cast starring the likes of Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter and the fourth instalment of the royal drama was just as gripping.
The hit royal drama released its season four episodes in November 2020, featuring some key new characters - namely Princess Diana played by Emma Corrin.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Crown season 4.
The Crown season 4: Is there a trailer?
Yes, Netflix released a first-look trailer, introducing audiences to Emma Corrin as Diana, Princess of Wales.
The streaming service then shared another teaser trailer, also featuring Charles and Diana and making clear that series four will be heavily based on the issues within their marriage.
The Crown season 4: What’s it about?
Season three ended in the year 1977, and the fourth series follows on from then.
Netflix said of the series:
"As the 1970s are drawing to a close, Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family find themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), who is still unmarried at 30. As the nation begins to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain's first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), tensions arise between her and the Queen which only grow worse as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth. While Charles’ romance with a young Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) provides a much-needed fairytale to unite the British people, behind closed doors, the Royal family is becoming increasingly divided."
After his romance with Camilla Shand (Emerald Fennell) ended before it really started in series three, Prince Charles will meet and marry Lady Diana Spencer, and we can be sure we'll see more of headstrong Princess Anne (Erin Doherty) after her impressive comedy performance in series three.
The Queen's relationship with Prime Minister Harold Wilson (Jason Watkins) was one of the most touching season three elements but for the next instalment, the woman at the helm of government will be Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), meaning the Queen must forge a new relationship with a controversial PM.
Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) accepted the deterioration of her marriage to Lord Snowdon (Ben Daniels) and embarked on a new love affair. Expect to see more drama from the Queen's troubled sister in season four.
The Crown season 4: Who’s in it?
In terms of new characters, there are some pretty major additions.
Emma Corrin takes on the role of a young Princess Diana.
Speaking about her new role, Emma said:
“I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice.”

Gillian Anderson plays Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during her years leading the country.

"Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era."

Also expect to see Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip and the rest of the new season three cast continue into season four.
