A popular bakery from the USA will be handing out free ‘munchies’ this Saturday in exchange for sweet treats.

Insomnia Cookies will be hosting a pop-up at Platt Fields Park on Saturday (April 20) to coincide with ‘4/20 Day’. In exchange for unopened, non-perishable snacks, people can get a freshly baked cookie in return - and the offer will also be available at the Insomnia Cookies stores in the city centre and south Manchester too.

The cheeky campaign is based around the origins of the brand, which began when founder Seth Berkowitz and his student mates baked a batch of warm cookies as part of their ‘late-night cravings’. Whilst ‘4/20 Day’ is commonly associated with cannabis in the USA, Insomnia Cookies are keen to stress there are never any cannabis or cannabis-derived substances in their products.

In addition to the ‘munchie exchange’, which Insomnia say they are celebrating to showcase the ‘communal spirit’ associated with ‘4/20 Day’, customers on Saturday will also be able to get their hands on a four pack of cookies for £4.20 - saving £6.80. To get the offer, you’ll need to say “I’ve got the munchies” to a member of staff.

If that wasn’t enough, Insomnia staff on the day have also been trained to make their stores ‘slow speaking zones’, which bosses say will ensure a ‘laid-back and mellow vibe for the bleary-eyed’. You'll be able to experience this, if you feel so inclined to, at the Insomnia Cookies stores at University Green, on Cross Street and in Fallowfield.

Millie Ralston, Senior Marketing Manager at Insomnia Cookies commented: “We're not toking... joking! We're all about bringing joy and deliciousness to our fans and will be serving up in Platt Fields Park for one-day only.

"With the £4.20 deal, we're packing a punch with every bite. It's our way of leaf-ing a mark on the 20th April, celebrating the high life with flavours that are too good to puff, puff, pass up!”

Insomnia Cookies now has over 200 stores across America, and its stores in Manchester marked the first of the brand's expansion into the UK. Open for deliveries until 3am every day, the takeaway also sells a range of cookie-based shakes, ice cream, brownies and ice cream sandwiches.

The Cookie Exchange will be available at the Platt Fields Park pop-up on Saturday (April 20) as well as Insomnia Cookies’ University Green, Cross Street and Fallowfield stores. Valid from 11am until close - snacks must be sealed and unopened, in good condition and within the expiry date.
