Curious Giraffe Inspects Baby Deer at Louisiana Wildlife Park

A curious giraffe was spotted having a sweet interaction with a baby deer at a safari park in Folsom, Louisiana.

Video by Erika Ferraris from Global Wildlife Center shows the giraffe, named Jett, spreading his front legs and bending his long neck down to check out a fawn.

Ferraris told Storyful that Jett came to reside at the park in late 2021.

“Jett is a very sweet and goofy giraffe,” Ferraris said. “He loves veggies and is curious about the animals around him such other giraffes, ducks, geese, and babies!”

Global Wildlife Center named Jett after a visitor’s late son, who passed away of leukemia at a very young age.

Jett is a father to three giraffes, who he is also known to behave notably friendly towards.

“It is unusual for bulls [male giraffes] to show interest in their offspring, but Jett is often seen spending time near them and will even nuzzle them affectionately,” Ferraris explained. Credit: Erika Ferraris via Storyful
