The Nottingham city centre branch of electrical retailer Currys is to close for good. The Trinity Square store, in Milton Street, will close on February 1. Customers were informed of the news by posters in the window.

The company, which sells televisions, computers, cameras, fridges and cookers, will have two remaining stores, one at Castle Marina Retail Park and another at Madford Retail Park in Daybrook. A shopper said: "It's sad to see another store closing down in Nottingham. There appears to be a news article each week referring to different shops going the same way.

"I visited Currys quite often. Currys most recent ad campaign talks about seeing the items in real life and not online. Sadly with this store closing it's likely if people want to purchase from Currys they may have to resort to going online.

"I've purchased a number of home appliances from this Currys store and online for a number of years now and I always felt it was best to see the items in person before making that important purchase. This store was in an ideal location, just over the road from the Victoria Centre.

"Currys at Trinity Square has always been clean and appeared to be a well looked after and welcoming store, with the staff from each area asking if we needed any help or were looking for anything but they didn't pressure you or follow you around. The layout of the store was also a key factor for me because it had a good flow about it allowing you to move from section to section. Currys at Castle Marina Retail Park is a huge store but can be overwhelming due to the large amount of stock.

"It really is sad to see this store close. It has great staff, a good location to have a general look around or just to chat to the tech guys or staff for guidance."

A Currys spokesperson said: "We can confirm the store is closing. We are working hard to ensure that all colleagues impacted have the option to be redeployed to our local stores at Castle Marina and Madford Retail Parks. This store will close on the 1st February.”
