A witness to the crash, which saw a car on its side, told Belfast Live: "Belfast’s worst junction strikes again."

The PSNI said: Police and other emergency services are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision in the Cutts area of Dunmurry."

Last year an announcement of a road improvement scheme at the area was welcomed by campaigners.

The Department for Infrastructure launched a procurement competition for a road safety improvement scheme at McKinstry Road/Derriaghy Road/ The Cutts, Derriaghy in November.

A detailed design of the scheme was completed which will introduce fully controlled right turn movements within the signal phasing. Extensive road widening will be required on the Derriaghy Road side of McKinstry Road to provide the additional splitter islands required to facilitate the new layout.
