Dad goes viral cheering alongside daughter and team: 'All for her'

A Texas dad didn't miss a beat when it came to supporting his daughter recently.

Cecelia Simmons shared a video of her husband, Andre Simmons, dancing in the stands while their daughter Jazlyn and her Temple High School cheer team performed. The TikTok post, first shared on Sept. 30, has garnered over 312,000 views.

As the cheer team members raise their pompoms and go through their routine, Andre Simmons follows right along, nailing the moves right alongside them.

"Everyone always asks Andrè Simmons about the boys continuing his football legacy little do they know he's waited his whole life to be a cheer dad," Cecelia Simmons captioned the video, adding a beaming face emoji.

TikTok users quickly shared their reactions with some nominating Andre Simmons as "cheer dad of the year" or applauding his energy and spot-on moves.

Simmons himself was quick to tell "Good Morning America" he's not the best dancer and it took him a few days to learn the routine. But the father of five said he persisted because he wanted to "create a lifelong memory" with Jazlyn, mostly because he is often away for work as an infantryman.

"She thought she made the varsity cheer team so my way of supporting her and kind of trying to make up that time lost is doing things that she loves and surprising her with joining her in the cheer during the football game," Simmons said.

"Once I got it down pat, I just jumped up there when I heard the band finally bring the song up and I got up there and did it with her," he continued.

Simmons said Jazlyn and her cheer team friends were surprised and "absolutely loved" that he could join in on the fun. The proud dad said it meant "the world" to him to be able to be there for his daughter too.

"I love to try to be super dad when I'm here and create those lifelong memories and it's something for us to look back on and enjoy together," he said.

Simmons said he plans on cheering some more and making more memories with Jazlyn.

"At the end of the day, it's all for her. So I'm gonna get up there and do the cheer with her," he said.
