The Caldor Fire destroyed homes and businesses in Twin Bridges as it moved towards South Lake Tahoe, California, on August 30, prompting Gov Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency for Alpine, Amador and Placer counties.

The wildfire grew to 186,568 acres with 15 percent of the perimeter contained by early Tuesday morning, official reports said.

Local media said the fire burned through Twin Bridges, although Camp Sacramento and the popular Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort were spared.

Over 480 homes were destroyed by the Caldor Fire by the evening of August 30, Cal Fire reported, while more than 33,000 structures remained threatened.
