In ten days’ time Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have finally assembled his boardroom dream team at Manchester United ahead the final six weeks of the transfer window.

Omar Berrada’s appointment was the first of the new hierarchy back in January but he will be the final one to arrive once his notice period from Manchester City finally expires, with the new United CEO set to start work on July 13.

It looked as though Dan Ashworth’s gardening leave might have lasted longer but Newcastle agreed to an undisclosed compensation package, having previously been branded “silly” by Ratcliffe amid their £20m asking price.

Ashworth - who worked with Ineos sporting chief Sir Dave Brailsford at the FA - starts his new role with immediate effect with time very much of the essence. The former Brighton director had been targeted since December, before Ratcliffe’s arrival was made official.

A week after Ineos' minority stake was ratified, Ashworth told Newcastle he wished to leave for Old Trafford and was placed on gardening leave for four months. He had only swapped the Seagulls at Brighton for the Magpies two years earlier.

Upon arriving at St James’ Park he told club media what his primary intentions were in his first few months, comments which could hint at what Ashworth plans to do in the coming weeks at United.

He said: "The two most important things for me at the moment are to try and understand and get to know all the staff, how the club functions and the culture here and then short-term, help drive the transfer window for the next three months."

United have had a significant turnover of staff since December, with Richard Arnold and John Murtough just two figures stepping down from their board roles while attacking coach Benni McCarthy also looks set to leave the club.

Rene Hake and possibly Ruud van Nistelrooy could be sitting in the dugout alongside Erik ten Hag next season, after the new regime decided that the Dutchman would be kept on as United boss following a lengthy review that included sounding out other options.

Had Ashworth arrived at Old Trafford six months ago, he would have walked into a very different environment to the one at present. Ratcliffe has gone about changing the way United operates in a sporting capacity and his expected arrival now be smoother than it might have been.

Ashworth’s transfer dealings have been widely praised following his work at Brighton and Newcastle, and this perhaps what fans are most excited about.

After meeting his new colleagues and getting a feel for how the club structure operates he will lead the charge for transfer targets for the next two months as Ratcliffe’s revamp plan goes up a new gear.
