Dancing on Ice's Matt Evers has slammed Megan Barton Hanson for referring to the series as "so not manly".

The Love Island star – who is dating Wes Nelson, one of the new batch of Dancing on Ice contestants – made the remark in a recent interview with The Sun's Fabulous magazine while saying she is "nervous to see [Wes] in sequins".

"Do you know what? I’m nervous to see him in sequins. I think I’m going to cringe so hard," she said. "That is so not manly. So we’ll see how it goes."

Now, in a tweet posted on Monday (December 17), professional skater Matt Evers called Megan out for her comments and for criticising the show.

"Hmmmm Megan, don't think picking girls up for a living and wearing Lycra is unmanly or cringey," he wrote.

"This show is my career and my passion. It's unfair to criticise this show and the work we are all putting in. There's nothing unmanly about [Dancing on Ice]."

This year, Matt is partnered with The Only Way is Essex star Gemma Collins - and he thinks she will "surprise a lot of people".

He told FuBar Radio: "She is working her little tail off. I think she’s really going to surprise a lot of people.

"As long as she sticks with it, because as we know with her history she hasn’t had the best – I don’t want to say she’s a quitter – but she has fully committed to this up to this point.

"She really wants to nail this.”

Dancing on Ice returns to ITV on Sunday, January 6 at 6pm.
