Dancing on Ice couple Alexander Demetriou and Carlotta Edwards announce split

Married Dancing on Ice professionals Alexander Demetriou and Carlotta Edwards are separating after four years of marriage, it has been confirmed.

Taking to Instagram yesterday (26 April) Demetriou broke the news of his separation from Edwards to his 30,000 followers, saying the decision was the right one for both parties.

"I'm sorry I have been quiet on social media recently but it's been a tough time personally for me. Carlotta and I have separated," he said. "Although it saddens me that we can no longer be together, I feel this is best for the both of us."

He added: "I'm looking forward to what the future will bring but in the meantime let's all stay home and stay safe. Alex xx"

The pair joined the show as professionals as the start of the 2019 series. While she was partnered with presenter and actor Richard Blackwood, he skated with former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton.

For this years series they were paired with Ben Hanlin and Maura Higgins respectively.

Former Love Island star Higgins was forced to dismiss rumours she and Demetriou were more than just friends after the pair appeared to grow close as the show progressed.

“Alex and I are so close - we’ve trained together for months,” she told the Sun. “Obviously, we’re going to be close, exactly like every other partner on the show. But that’s it. We’re very close friends and we get on well.”

Higgins has also recently separated from her partner, dancer and fellow former Love Island star Curtis Pritchard.

She announced the pair had split early last month, and she admitted their busy work schedule played a big factor. “We were very, very busy and it just took a toll on the relationship in the end,” she told The Sun.

She has since described herself as “happily single”.
