Dani Harmer will reprise her most famous role as gobby Tracy Beaker in a brand new series.

The 31-year-old, who first took the role as the feisty foster care child in 2002 aged just 12, will now play a grown-up Beaker in new BBC iPlayer series My Mum Tracy Beaker.

The programme will see Beaker now raising her own daughter, Jess.

Harmer has since expressed excitement at taking on the role that made her famous once again.

“I cannot wait to return (again) to the role of Tracy! I'm just like a fan myself and want to know what happens next and where this next journey will take her,” she said.

“I absolutely adore playing the character and I'm looking forward to taking on the challenge of portraying her as a first time mum.”

Harmer, who shares four-year-old daughter Avarie-Belle Betsy with her boyfriend of five years Simon Brough, added that she was excited to see how Beaker had changed since having a child.

“Being a mother myself I know how much it changes you so I'm looking forward to seeing how it's changed Tracy but still keeping her the same feisty strong female lead that people know and love,” she explained.

The new series, expected to hit BBC iPlayer early next year, is likely to be based on author Jacqueline Wilson’s children’s book of the same name.

The book, released in 2018, follows Beaker and Jess as they struggle to get by while living on a housing estate in London.

This is not the first time Harmer has assumed her break-out role, having played Beaker in 2010 CBBC series Tracy Beaker Returns, which sees the character as a care worker after writing a book about what life is like in a foster home.

Harmer’s other TV appearances include starring in Dani’s House, Trial & Retribution and as a contestant on the 2012 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
