It's official: Daniel Craig IS returning to play James Bond for the next movie – and possibly for the last time.

Speculation has been rife over the actor's future as 007. But he set the record straight once and for all on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, confirming in person that he will be reprising the role for the currently-untitled Bond 25.

"I have been quite cagey about it," Craig admitted. "I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I've been rather coy. But I kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth I should speak truth to you."

Colbert asked him point-blank if Craig would be playing Bond for the fifth time, to which the actor said: "Yes."

"We've been discussing it," Craig explained. "We've just been trying to figure things out. I always wanted to, I needed a break."

Suggesting that Bond 25 may be his 007 swansong, he added: "I just want to go out on a high note, and I can't wait."

Craig first took on the role of James Bond for the 2006 movie Casino Royale, set at the start of the secret agent's career.

He has gone on to star in Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and most recently Spectre.

Last month, it was revealed that the next Bond instalment would be released in US cinemas on November 8, 2019, with a "traditional earlier release" in the UK.
