Who is Daniel Gyollai? Inside track on Glentoran's new Hungarian goalkeeper

Glentoran have announced the signing of goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai. The 27-year-old, who hails from Hungary, moves to the Oval after spending the past 11 years in England.

Gyollai played for Stoke City, Wigan Athletic Peterborough United and Maidenhead United but is now preparing for a fresh challenge in the Irish League.

Glens boss Declan Devine has been keen to bolster his goalkeeping options after Aaron McCarey and Ollie Webber both left the club at the end of last season.

Gyollai becomes the East Belfast side's first signing of the summer as Devine embarks on a squad rebuild on Mersey Street.

Youth career

Gyollai started out with his home club Békéscsaba Yth before joining Honvéd where he featured for the Under 17 side. He then earned a move to Stoke City's academy in 2013 where he linked up with the Potters' U18 and U21 squads.

Previous clubs

Gyollai has been based in the United Kingdom since joining Stoke City when he was just 16. He had a couple of loan spells with Nantwich Town before joining Wigan Athletic in 2019. He moved to Peterborough United the following year and most recently he was with Maidenhead United in the English National League.

International honours

He has been capped by Hungary up to and including U21 level.
