Danny Boyle calls Northumberland 'wonderful place to come and film' as 28 Years Later shoot continues

Director Danny Boyle has described Northumberland as a wonderful place to come and film.

The Oscar-winning director is in Rothbury today alongside Killing Eve star Jodie Comer as filming continues for 28 Years Later, the third in the zombie trilogy. Other stars in the cast include Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack O'Connell.

Crew arrived in the rural village on Monday, setting up to film on Jubilee Crescent and Blaeberry Hill. Sheep were photographed on Jubilee Crescent on Tuesday morning with huge woolly fleeces, with Mr Boyle saying that they were to look as if they "hadn't been shorn for a long time".

In a video shared on Facebook, Danny Boyle told Rothbury councillor Steven Bridgett: "Yeah, we've had a great time in Rothbury, well above Rothbury. We've been shooting in the town as well, we've got a camera down there with very, very woolly sheep.

"It's beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. It's a wonderful place to come and film, I mean the whole of Northumberland while we've been around, but Rothbury is particularly nice."

Coun Steven Bridgett had previously told ChronicleLive that filming was great for the area. He said on Monday: "I couldn't think of a better location to film a movie, even if it's about a zombie apocalypse.

"Knowing the locations of where they're filming, they're going to get an excellent view of the village. It's a great thing for the village and residents have been very receptive and supportive.

"Obviously the main car park being closed is a bit of an inconvenience, but it's hugely worthwhile and an opportunity to showcase what a beautiful area we live in."
