Danny Dyer once had to smash his way out of a wardrobe after mistakenly building it around himself in an embarrassing DIY mishap.

The 43-year-old EastEnders star made the revelation on the latest episode of Sorted With The Dyers — the podcast he shares with his daughter Dani.

On the podcast, the father and daughter duo turn Agony Aunt and provide advice to listener queries and sometimes to celebrity guests.

Dyer was discussing DIY with comedian Romesh Ranganathan, who confessed he was "useless" at "traditionally male" jobs, revealing he did a terrible job of assembling dining room chairs.

Reassuring the comic, Dyer revealed his own catastrophic furniture blunder.

"I once built a wardrobe and I built myself into it," he said.

"I had to then smash my way out of the back."

As Ranganathan laughed, Dyer added: "I don't know how I did it. I was very, very young.

"I built it the wrong way round and then I couldn't get out, so I had to smash through the pebbledash bit at the back."

Dyer became a grandfather for the first time in January, when Dani gave birth to son Santiago with partner Sammy Kimmence.

Kimmence and Dyer had dated before she entered the Love Island villa in 2018 and rekindled their romance after she split from fellow Love Island winner Jack Fincham.
