Terminally-ill man who mooned speed camera for his bucket list to appear in court

A terminally-ill man who mooned a speed camera for his bucket list will appear in court after police charged him with "using threatening behaviour".

Darrell Meekcom, 55, was filmed being wrestled to the ground by six officers after he bared his bottom at a mobile speed camera van.

Viral footage showed the dad-of-two, who has multiple system atrophy (MSA), showed him being bundled over and arrested in his back garden in Kidderminster last November.

The charges do not relate to the mooning itself but the incident during his arrest at his home.

Meekcom, a retired university lecturer, will appear before Worcester Magistrates' Court on 17 May.

Meekcom, who lives with wife Sarah, 36, and their two daughters, was initially arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure following his antics.

He said at the time he was left "gobsmacked" at the "heavy-handed" response and accused West Mercia Police of "outrageous bullying."

Registered nurse Meekcom was bailed following the arrest and said he was interviewed under caution in January 2022.

Now he has been charged with using threatening behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty.

Wheelchair-user Meekcom, who also has Parkinson's Disease and heart and kidney problems, said: "My health will not, and has not, got better since all this started.

“The stress of all this has made my health worse. It is unbelievable."

Meekcom previously told how he was left stunned when police turned up outside their home.

He had dropped his trousers at a mobile speed camera van on Stourbridge Road in Kidderminster while his wife went to buy some bread from a nearby Tesco Express.

Mobile phone footage filmed by Sarah, a nurse, shows Meekcom calmly telling officers: "I'm terminally ill, I won't be able to breathe like this.

"This is ridiculous - I moonied a speed camera. I moonied a speed camera."

A police spokesperson said: "As legal proceedings are now active, West Mercia Police cannot make any further comment at this time".
