The Dartford Crossing will be shut throughout the summer for improvement works to take place. Work to re-waterproof and resurface the bridge carrying the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway between Junction 31 (Lakeside) and Junction 30 (A13) is scheduled to take place throughout summer 2024, which will disrupt traffic, says Thurrock Council.

The first stage of this work is set to begin this weekend. One of the northbound Dartford Crossing tunnels and several lanes between the Dartford Crossing tunnel exits and M25 Junction 30 (northbound/anti-clockwise) will be closed from 8pm on Saturday, July 16, to 10pm on Sunday, July 7, for essential maintenance and repairs.

During this period, all traffic will be directed through the adjacent Dartford East Tunnel, continuing in lane three between M25 Junction 31 and Junction 30.

There will be no restrictions for southbound journeys towards the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, but residents planning to travel northbound via the crossing during this time should allow additional time for their journey.

These works are part of a series of planned maintenance activities, which will also take place on the following weekends from 8 pm Saturday to 10 am Sunday:

  • Saturday July 20 – Sunday July 21

  • Saturday July 27 – Sunday July 28

  • Saturday August 10 – Sunday August 11

  • Saturday August 17 – Sunday August 18
