Darwin Nunez supported by former Liverpool FC star as he celebrates special update

Darwin Nunez was flooded with support as he started off his Copa America campaign in style.

The Liverpool FC striker scored a superb left footed volley as Uruguay went on to defeat Panama 3 - 1. The victory has taken La Celeste to the top of the group and Marcelo Bielsa's side will aim to build on their good start when they take on Bolivia on Friday.

It has been an extra special week for Nunez as his goalscoring performance came on the day of his 25th birthday. He took to Instagram after the win to thank followers for sending messages to mark the occasion.

A translation of the post said: "It was beautiful to turn 25 defending Uruguay at the Copa America." Nunez was wished well by some of his teammates including Adrian.

The goalkeeper said: "Happy birthday loco." Former Reds player, Maxi Rodriguez, was another to send a message of support.

Alexis Mac Allister was another Liverpool FC star who sent a birthday message to Nunez. The midfielder has also been in action in this summer's Copa America for Argentina.

The Argentinians have got off to a strong start to the tournament as they have won their opening two games. Argentina beat Chile 1 - 0 yesterday as Lautaro Martinez scored a late winner.

The midfielder's partner, Ailen Cova, was in attendance at the Met Life stadium and shared a snap of Mac Allister as he exited the pitch.
