WILKO is set to return to The Dolphin shopping centre in Poole after closing hundreds of stores across the UK.

The Poole site, in The Dolphin shopping centre, officially closed on October 3 last year along with stores in Winton, Boscombe and Ferndown.

However, the household and garden retailer will be returning to Poole on Friday, August 16 with freebies and a revamped store.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to mark the opening along with prizes and goody bags for the first 50 shoppers in the queue.

The 23,500 square feet site will offer customers well-known Wilko own-brand alongside popular named products.

The new store will also feature an Iceland concession and customers will be able to browse and order from the self-service terminals for home delivery.

Poole is one of the brand’s new concept stores during Wilko’s continued roll-out of further launches, including sites in Exeter, Luton, Plymouth St Albans and Rotherham.

Recruitment for the Poole store is now taking place, with ex-Wilko staff being given priority in the new roles.

John Grinnell, centre manager of The Dolphin, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Wilko back to The Dolphin. Our customers definitely felt the loss after the initial closure of their Poole store in October 2023, and many will be glad to see Wilko’s return.

"The reopening will bring back much-loved Wilko-brand homewares, and the introduction of Iceland products in-store will add an extra level of convenience for Poole shoppers.”
