Everyone calm down. Sir David Attenborough is just fine. Yes, he’s trending – with 3,339 tweets about him currently (and counting) – but the reason appears to have absolutely nothing to do with him – and absolutely everything to do with Yewande on Love Island.

Yewande Biala, the 23-year-old scientist is just one of the contestants looking for love on this year’s reality show. She appears to have angered viewers of the ITV2 hit by revealing her dislike of David Attenborough’s documentaries.

The results were immediate, with fans taking to Twitter to express their disillusionment in her – and in some cases at the show. As one commenter said “Who hates David Attenborough #loveisland2019 I’m out,” with another adding, “I’m done. I’ve tried but it’s over Love Island.”

It wasn’t just fans of Love Island, who were tweeting about Attenborough. There was a second wave of people all saying the same thing – that if the broadcaster and natural historian was trending then it could only mean something bad.

All were very relieved, if annoyed to discover that Love Island was the culprit. GIFs were the order of the day to express both relief and frustration.

Yewande had been building support with viewers after a slow start in the love stakes on the show. Fans have called her genuine and expressed their support, as she has been slow to throw herself into a physical relationship with her match. Now Danny, who she has been coupled up with, appears to be showing an interest in new arrival, Arabella.

But could her feelings towards David Attenborough affect her place on the show? And will it continue to shape how the viewers feel about her?
