David Cameron To Get His Own ‘Air Force One’-Style Private Jet

Prime Minister is set to get his own version of the US president’s ‘Air Force One’ private plane, with the government expected to spend £10m on refurbishing an existing RAF aircraft.

The RAF Voyager A330 would be used to transport the PM and senior ministers to official engagements and would also be available for the royal family to use.

According to the government, the new plane will save around £775,000 of taxpayer’s money every year, as it will cut down on charter flight costs.

However, the huge outlay could prove to be controversial as most government departments face cuts in the coming months, with the first round of cost-cutting measures expected to be announced at next week’s spending review.

While critics may object to the £10m refit, the new plane would cost just a fraction of the President Obama’s £200m Air Force One.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Tony Blair had planned to purchase two private jets, dubbed ‘Blair Force One’ before the idea was eventually blocked by Gordon Brown.

The details of the PM’s new private jet will be explained in the Government’s Strategic Defence and Security Review on Monday.

A private jet would certainly be a step up for the PM, who was recently pictured snaffling Pringles aboard an Easyjet flight while flying out to a family holiday in Portugal.
