David de Gea sends three-word transfer message as former Man United player seeks summer move

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sent a message to prospective clubs as he continues his bid to return to professional football.

The 33-year-old has been without a club since he was released by the Reds after 12 years between the sticks at Old Trafford. It has been over a year since he last played a competitive match, coming in the 2-1 win over Fulham that rubber-stamped third place in Erik ten Hag's debut season in the Premier League.

De Gea, a two-time Golden Glove winner, has frequently posted snippets of his intense training sessions as he puts himself in the shop window over a return to senior football. It was claimed that the Spaniard turned down a lucrative move to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League in November 2023 in a switch that would've seen him reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo after several high-profile names from the Premier League and Europe made the move to the Middle East.

On social media this week, De Gea posted a series of clips going through the motions and going through his paces as the prospect of pre-season for football clubs approaches.

The 33-year-old said: "Ready to rock," as the caption at a scenic Spanish football headquarters. However, it isn't the first time that the shot-stopper has taken to social media to showcase his progression as he looks to end his football hiatus, training at the stadium of National League club Altrincham previously.

De Gea was mooted with a move to the Premier League last season, namely Newcastle United, during their injury crisis between the sticks. However, manager Eddie Howe moved to dispel the claims, he said: "I've seen a lot of media headlines regarding goalkeepers and other players.

"We have not made any enquiries. If we were to recruit now we'd be recruiting in every area on the pitch. It's a chance for the other keepers to consolidate their positions."
