David Walliams dodges question about Britain's Got Talent after shock exit

David Walliams dodged a question about his shock departure from Britain's Got Talent on Lorraine on Wednesday.

During an interview to discuss his comic book Astrochimp, host Lorraine Kelly asked the Little Britain comedian if he still watched the talent show despite leaving after a controversy in 2022.

"Britain's Got Talent's on, how are you feeling about that? Do you watch, do you not watch? Are you a bit sorry about how it all finished?" Lorraine asked.

David skirted around the question by replying, "Um, well, I've been travelling a lot, so I haven't had a chance to see it and I'm really enjoying spending all this time being creative."

He then went on to list the various projects he is currently working on before adding, "There's so much going on and being creative is what I really really love. So actually getting back to that, getting back to working with Matt (Lucas), has been a joy."

David, who had been on the BGT judging panel since 2012, hit headlines in late 2022 after a transcript leaked showing him making derogatory and disrespectful remarks about contestants during a break in filming at the London auditions in 2020.

He apologised for his offensive comments at the time, saying in a statement, "I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain's Got Talent in 2020. These were private conversations and - like most conversations with friends - were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry."

He was subsequently replaced by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli in January 2023.

David, 52, later filed a case against BGT production company FremantleMedia over data protection and they reached a settlement last year.

The current season of the talent show began last month, with Bruno returning as a judge alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
