The next big DC television crossover will be a genuine meeting of four shows, with Supergirl getting in on the action.

So what can we expect? Well, according to The Flash star Grant Gustin, it might not be an evil menace that brings all the heroes together this time around.

"Last year was an alien invasion, so it was pretty intense," Gustin told Digital Spy. "But it sounds like this one will hopefully be more fun. It won't be impending doom necessarily that brings us together, it'll hopefully be a more fun reason that brings us together!"

So what might that fun reason be? We know that Barry Allen (Gustin) will be marrying his beloved Iris (Candice Patton) sometime soon, so maybe it's their nuptials that bring the heroes of the DC-verse together?

"I know the premise and I know it's going to make a lot of fans happy," Melissa Benoist, star of Supergirl, revealed. "Two events happen that people are going to lose their minds about."

Two events? One might be Barry and Iris's wedding... but the second? Your guess is as good as ours.

Marc Guggenheim, executive producer on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, has promised that the crossover will have "big emotional stakes" – so maybe the second event is less jolly?

"It's a four-show crossover – not a three-show crossover – that is even bigger than last year, which I think is really saying something," Guggenheim said. "We've hit upon an idea that I think is really huge, it has big emotional stakes, and is something that I think the comic book fans in particularly will really dig."

Give it to us now. Seriously.

Supergirl will return to The CW on Monday, October 9 at 8/7c. The Flash is back on Tuesday, October 10 at 8/7c, followed by Legends of Tomorrow at 9/8c. Arrow season 6 begins Thursday, October 12 at 9/8c. All four series air on Sky 1 in the UK.
