Netflix, as part of Saturday’s Geeked Week rollout, released a first trailer for Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner and was first ordered to series by Max, in April 2022.

This February, though, the supernatural series got handed off to Netflix — reportedly in part because it no longer fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the DC comic book movie and TV universe, but also because Max would not have been able to market Dead Boy Detectives until 2024.

In this supernatural series set in The Sandman universe, two teenagers (played by George Rexstrew
and The Lodge‘s Jayden Revri) find each other in death… and they will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell, and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Hollyoaks‘ Kassius Nelson), they work together to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.

The series also stars Briana Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) as Jenny the Butcher, Ruth Connell (Supernatural) as the Night Nurse, Yuyu Kitamura (The Expatriates) as Niko and Jenn Lyon (Claws) as Esther, plus Lukas Gage (YOU) and David Iacono (The Flight Attendant). Plus, if you don’t blink, you can spot social media star Caitlin Reilly (Hacks) in the trailer above, in a guest spot.

Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) wrote the Dead Boy Detectives pilot and serves as showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz (Arrow).
