Deadly Floods in Eastern Spain Submerge Train Tunnel, Crumble Wall

Severe flooding has killed at least two people and destroyed buildings in parts of eastern Spain, with a drop in temperature causing torrential rain in multiple regions on Thursday, September 12, including the province of Valencia.

This footage, described as filmed in the municipality of La Font de la Figuera, shows flooding caused by the heavy rain.

Font de la Figuera’s tunnel for the AVE – Spain’s high-speed Alva Velocidad Espanola train – was reportedly swamped by the rainfall, which also ruined nearby fields and rural roads, according to a local report by Las Privincias.

Spanish media reported that a 51-year-old woman and her 61-year-old brother had been found dead in an overturned car that floodwaters had washed away in Caudete, about 12 miles southwest of La Font de la Figuera. Credit: Andreu Carreres via Storyful
