Debbie McGee's stepson Martin Daniels in homophobia row as he defends her Strictly Come Dancing routine
Paul Daniels’ son has sparked a homophobia Twitter row after he attempted to defend his stepmother Debbie McGee’s Strictly Come Dancing performance at the weekend.
Martin Daniels, 54, responded to cruel Twitter comments about Debbie’s Spice Girls’ routine, which saw the 59-year-old former magician’s assistant dress up as Geri Halliwell’s Ginger Spice.
One critical viewer wrote: “Well that’s the Spice Girls ruined for me. I thought at first it was a drag act parody.
“Then the dancing started and it went down hill. Possibly her worst dance over marked.”
Martin simply responded with: “Gay”, to which the user replied: “Doesn’t take away how bad she dances the routine!”
Martin hit back once again, this time tweeting: “Gay and bitter! A great combo.”
Another user then joined the conversation, telling Martin: “Your Dad would turn in his grave if he witnessed that kind of homophobic crap that just fell out of your mouth!
“Doesn’t look good on Debbie does it… the world needs to see this!!”
However, Martin remained unfazed – tweeting back: “It’s not homophobic to refer to gay person as gay. So don’t play the gay card. You’re not a victim be proud.”
Debbie and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice’s samba to a Spice Girls medley landed the star in the bottom two at the weekend, with Debbie forced to compete in the dance-off against Jonnie Peacock, who was eliminated from the competition last night.
