'Deeply loved' businessman among 13 tributes and funeral notices from across Nottinghamshire

Once a week we share tributes from family and friends for lost loved ones who have died across Nottinghamshire. Each notice will remain online forever, providing a place for people to look back on and remember.

Announcing the death of a loved one in local news media is a long-standing tradition, with every notice published to our newspaper and news site also appearing on funeral-notices.co.uk - the UK’s No 1 site for death notices. To read the latest announcements and add tributes to those from our area who have died, click here .

Here are the notices published in the Nottingham Post - from Saturday, June 8, until Friday, June 14, 2024. Our thoughts are with friends and family affected.

Pauline Veronica Raynor (Clifford)

(Clifford) 3/4/1932 - 5/6/2024 Our precious little mum, grandma, sister and aunt passed away peacefully at the QMC, finally succumbing to pneumonia having suffered from severe dementia for several years. Born and raised by her beloved grandparents in Lenton between the wars, Pauline moved to the brand new Clifton Estate with her late husband John in the early 1950s where they raised two sons, Keith and Colin. A good looking woman who when young was often compared to Elizabeth Taylor, she was a true Nottingham lass who loved reading, history and the classic Hollywood films of her youth. All that knew her will agree that there has never been a kinder and more generous person. She genuinely never had a bad word to say about anyone. We were all so lucky to have known her. Sadly Pauline needed 24 hour care during her last 4 years following the onset of severe dementia. This care was provided by the wonderful staff of Clifton View Care Home to whom we are eternally grateful. They treated her with such compassion and dignity. The funeral service and post funeral reception will take place in July on a date to be arranged.

Alistair (BIG AL) Rowarth

(BIG AL ) Alistair "Big Al" Rowarth May 24, 1969 - January 4, 2024 Alistair Rowarth, beloved son of the late Brian Rowarth and Maureen Beany, passed away at the age of 54. He was the devoted father of Calum, Cain, and Coco (14); life-partner of Hollie and an important figure in the lives of her children, Evangeline, Hayden, and Fraser. He was also the brother of Belinda, Nick and Hayley; step-brother to Neil; and uncle to Celine, Elise, Alex and Rocco. Cherished nephew to Brenda, cousin to Dawn, Glenn and Hayley and a dear friend to too many to mention. Alistair passed away suddenly from a previously undiagnosed condition during a Pegasus flight from Turkey to the UK, leaving his family and friends in deep mourning. Born on May 24, 1969, in Wollaton, Nottingham, Alistair was very well-liked at school and had a joyful childhood. Known for his practical jokes, he kept his beautiful and always glamorous mother, Maureen and his father, Big Brian, constantly entertained and they couldn't have loved him more. Big Al was known for his grand stature, larger-than-life personality and kind heart. Alistair's vibrant presence and infectious zest for life left an indelible impression on everyone he met. His kindness, generosity and unwavering loyalty made him a pillar of strength for many. Alistair was proud of his ten years of sobriety, crediting AA and his sponsor Bill and he, in turn, sponsored many others. A successful businessman, Alistair owned Liberty Gym, Bodycraft, and Raw Motors in Nottingham. He inherited his father Brian's business acumen and sense of humour, even memorializing his dad with a tattoo. Alistair had a passion for motorbikes and adventure and his enthusiasm was boundless. He was a devoted father, encouraging a strong bond among his wonderful, kind-hearted children, handsome Calum and Cain and the lovely Coco - the apples of his eye; whose resilience is a testament to his legacy. Alistair found deep love with Hollie, his life partner, who was with him when he passed. Their travels and shared adventures were filled with joy and laughter, epitomized by Alistair's practical jokes. A memorial service celebrating his life in February was standing room only, a testament to the many lives he touched. Necia and Jodie, the mothers of his children were present; still holding him in high regard - a testament to his kind heart. Alistair's spirit will live on through the countless people he inspired with his warmth, kindness, and joy. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. "Alistair- your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure."
