'We are deeply saddened and hurt': Anger after sanctuary garden is vandalised

A SANCTUARY that serves as a tribute to cancer patients and their loved ones has been vandalised in Swanage.

The Cancare Purbeck organisation offers support to cancer patients, their families, and carers at any stage of diagnosis.

The sanctuary garden was two years in the making before opening in May earlier this year.

Now, bunting and wire have been destroyed at the place of remembrance.

The garden serves as a quiet place for reflection and remembrance of loved ones.

In a post on social media from Cancare, it read: “The Sanctuary Garden serves as a tribute to those who have tragically passed away, providing a space for reflection and remembrance for them and their families.

“This garden was meticulously crafted by the community with care and dedication.

“We are deeply saddened and hurt by this incident.

“Although we have CCTV cameras installed, we urge anyone with additional information to come forward to assist us in the investigation.

“Thank you.”

A spokesperson for the garden said: “We are upset and disappointed that this has happened, just two months after we opened this space.

“However, we are very grateful for the support from the public, the response has been amazing.”

The Cancare Purbeck Sanctuary Garden can be found on Burlington Road, Swanage.
