Yahoo News Demi Lovato reveals 'Cool for the Summer' is about a secret fling with a female star
Before Demi Lovato came out "as bisexual at the time," she says she was secretly hooking up with a fellow female celeb who inspired her to co-write "Cool for the Summer."
Lovato revealed the origins of the seasonal bop while on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Show, though she wouldn't name her muse.

Lovato began by discussing coming out to her parents and how accepting they were — accepting and apparently not at all surprised. She recalled the conversation she had with her step-dad.
"When I came out, my [step-dad] was like, 'Yeah, you have a song called 'Cool for the Summer,' like it's obvious,'" Lovato said.
Released in 2015 off her fifth studio album, Confident, "Cool for the Summer" was inspired by a secret affair Lovato had with another famous woman. Lovato says she never told her paramour that the song was about her, and doubts that she's figured it out.
Stern tries to get Lovato to name names, but she demurs, citing her current relationship with musician Jutes. However, Stern's longtime co-host Robin Quivers notes that now "Cool for the Summer" will have the same kind of mystique around it as Carly Simon's timeless whodunit, "You're So Vain."
