Demonstrators Clash with Police at Paris May Day Protest

At least 19 people were arrested in Paris after clashes erupted between police and protesters during a May Day protest, local media reported, citing authorities.

Footage filmed by Amar Taoualit shows police officers in riot gear approaching a group of demonstrators and pushing them. Some protesters can be heard heckling and insulting the officers, saying “You are cowards!” and “Get out of here!” in French.

A spokesperson for the city’s police, Laurent Nunez, thanked every police officer and firefighter who partook in the security and public order.

“Your courageous action allowed the Parisian demonstration to take place in good conditions despite the presence of troublemakers keen to fight with you and deteriorate,” Nunez said. Credit: Amar Taoualit via Storyful
