Following on from a solid stint at the club for the second half of last season, Grimsby Town have retained left-back Denver Hume for another year.

The 25-year-old joined the club in January on a short-term deal after being allowed to leave his previous club Portsmouth, going on to make 16 appearances for the Mariners last term as he helped them retain their League Two status.

Hume was offered a new deal to extend his stay at Blundell Park right after the conclusion of the 23/24 campaign, and after taking some time to consider other options, has decided to stay at the club for another year.

On his decision to stay, Grimsby boss David Artell said: “Denver has got an extremely good pedigree. He’s been playing at a good level for a number of years now, which he showed when he came in. He’s got competition with Matty (Carson), but that’s what we want, competition all over the pitch.

“After putting pen to paper to sign a new deal with the Club, Hume said, ” I really enjoyed my time here during the second half of last season, so I’m delighted to get it sorted and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Hume has new competition at the left-back spot for next season with Matty Carson joining the club this summer from Reading on a two-year deal, but with Hume now committed the club have two solid options to choose from on the left side of the defence.

Callum Ainley was also offered a new deal by the club this summer and has re-signed, with confirmation of both players’ commitment to Town coming right as the players return for the start of a long pre-season.

Artell has significantly bolstered his options at the back to start the summer transfer business with Hume’s return the latest confirmed addition to that unit.
