Departing French ambassador slams Trump as 'big mouth'

The outgoing French ambassador, Gérard Araud, to the United States slammed President Trump as a "big mouth". In an interview with the Foreign Policy magazine he said: "In part you have this president who is an extrovert, - really a big mouth who reads basically nothing or nearly nothing".

Araud went on to say that the White House and the US Government had fallen into a dysfunctional state. He said "The interagency process is totally broken and decisions taken from the hip".

He also criticised President Trump in an interview with The Guardian, telling the newspaper: "When they say America first, but it's America alone".

"Basically, this president and this administration don't have allies, they don't have friends. It's really about bilateral relationships on the basis of the balance of power in defence of narrow American interests."
