'Devastation': Abaco Islands Resident Describes Damage After Hurricane Dorian Batters Bahamas

One resident of the Abaco Islands on Monday, September 2, surveyed the damage caused by Hurricane Dorian, after the storm pummeled the area with winds of up to 185 mph over several days.

The hurricane, which struck the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm, brought a storm surge of “18 to 23 feet above normal tide levels,” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said in alerts.

This footage was shared by Jessica Mullen, a resident of Hope Town in Elbow Cay, who said that residents had no clean drinking water and that they were going to “need everything to rebuild here.”

“The devastation here is pretty crazy,” Mullen says at another point in the video.

Mullen previously shared other footage of damage to her home.

Mullen said she had seen a rescue helicopter fly by in the past few hours and “hopefully there are supplies” coming. Credit: Jessica Mullen via Storyful
