A Devon chef, who owns and runs an award-winning Asian restaurant in Torquay, is appearing on Channel 4's 'Come Dine With Me: The Professionals' on Monday, May 13.

Rehan Uddin opened popular eatery, Indi-Yang, in Torquay, in 2022, after rebranding his previous Indian restaurant, Bombay Express, which operated for more than 10 years at the same site. And after Indi-Yang was crowned the Best Asian Fusion Restaurant of 2024, at the 2024 Best Bar and Restaurant Awards, Rehan will now be taking his culinary expertise to the national stage, as he takes part in the favourite TV cooking competition.

'Come Dine With Me: The Professionals' sees local restaurants go head-to-head as they take it in turns to host a three-course dinner to win a £,1000 prize. And Indi-Yang Torquay announced the exciting news on their Instagram account last week, writing: "Hey Indi-Yang foodies, get ready to turn up the heat because our very own Chef Rehan is about to sizzle on national television! That's right - he'll be showcasing his culinary wizardry on the hit TV show, Come Dine With Me The Professionals.

"Tune in on Monday, 13th May at 5pm on Channel 4 to catch all the action. Chef Rehan, currently at our sister restaurant, The Snooty Mehmaan Oxford, will be going head-to-head with top chefs from across the region, alongside the fabulous Asad Ahmed, owner of The Snooty Mehmaan. It's going to be an epic culinary showdown you won't want to miss!

"As Founder and CEO of the Asian Restaurant Owners Network, Rehan works with the best across the country. Now, he's taking his talents to the national stage and we couldn't be more excited. Let's show Chef Rehan our full support by tuning in and cheering him on. Gather your friends and family, pop some popcorn, and get ready for a night of culinary excitement. Happy watching!"

And ahead of the episode airing, Rehan himself added: "What a wonderful experience taking high-end Asian cuisine to the big screen. Hoping the nation enjoys the show!"

The 38-year-old chef was born into the business, as his parents opened their first Indian restaurant in Torbay when he was just a baby.

At aged 11 Rahen was working hard at Torquay Boys' Grammar School but also helping out at the family's other business the Gandhi Takeaway, in Preston. By 13, he had started waiting in the restaurants, and he was in the kitchen as a chef by the time he was taking his A-levels.

And since rebranding to Indi-Yang, the restaurant's focus is now on healthy, nutritious dishes that are full of ingredients and flavours from across Asia, including Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Watch Rehan competing on Come Dine With Me: The Professionals, on Monday, May 13, at 5pm on Channel 4 or catch up with My4 if you miss the show live.
