Devon village pub wins prestigious CAMRA title
A Devon village pub has been named CAMRA's best in the area for cider for the third year in a row. The award-winning Tom Cobley Tavern serves up to 23 ciders and perries at a time.
The family-run Spreyton pub has become a beacon for lovers of real ale since Roger Cudlip and his family took on the pub 21 years ago. His daughter Lucy is now championing its cider bar, sourcing a wide range of ciders from local makers and beyond.
Last year the pub was named CAMRA's National Cider Pub of the Year - and its latest accolade from the Exeter and East Devon branch of CAMRA means it is on the track for the same honour in 2024. Winners of the branch Cider Pub of the Year title become contenders for the regional title - then finally the national prize.

This year the Tom Cobley faced stiff competition from the Old Firehouse in Exeter, which was Exeter and East Devon branch of CAMRA’s Cider Pub of the Year runner up.
A spokesperson for the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) branch said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to give the Tom Cobley Tavern our award for Cider Pub of the Year. It is a tribute to Lucy, her family and their staff for their hard work in making this such a great cider pub – congratulations."
The Tom Cobley's cider range includes up to 15 real ciders and 2 real perrys at any one time. Staff are happy to give customers a taster when it comes to deciding which one to try.
