Diane Abbott's replacement ‘told blind journalist to f*** off after barging into him’

The woman who has replaced Diane Abbott as shadow home secretary reportedly once told a blind man to “f*** off” after he got in her way.

Lyn Brown, who was chosen by Jeremy Corbyn to replace Ms Abbott because of illness, is said to have barged into the back of Talksport political editor Sean Dilley and his guide dog in the corridors of Portcullis House in 2011.

Witnesses to the incident claim Ms Brown overtook Mr Dilley before shouting: “For ****’s sake, move out of my f****** way.”

After Mr Dilley told her to be more careful, Ms Brown is said to have argued back: “You are such a rude f****** man, you just walked right in front of me.”

After telling her he was blind and asking for her name, Ms Brown apparently told him: “I am not giving it to you, f*** off.”

Commons security pursued Ms Brown, who claimed she was being “harassed” by them.

Police were called and an official report was filed.

It is understood that Ms Brown, who last year resigned from the shadow cabinet in protest at Mr Corbyn remaining leader of the party, was given a dressing down by chief whip Rosie Winterton and she later apologised to Mr Dilley, according to the Daily Mail.

Mr Dilley added to the paper: “Look, I’m a journalist and we should never be the story. Lyn Brown has explained that there was a misunderstanding.

“She has apologised to me and as far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of the matter.”

Key Corbyn ally Barry Gardiner described the incident as a “smear” this morning.

He told TalkRadio: “I’ve known Lyn for many years and I’m very proud to serve with her.

“She’s an admirable MP and has served her constituents absolutely superbly.

“I know nobody who fights harder for people, in particular the people at the bottom of society.

“She is one of the most feisty, admirable, plucky women that I know.”

Ms Abbott was replaced as shadow home secretary for the remainder of the General Election campaign after another car crash interview on Sky News this week.

She later pulled out of a radio appearance, citing ill health.

The Labour party referred Yahoo News UK to a quote from a party source at the time of the story, who said: “There has been a misunderstanding. Lyn has apologised. They now both consider the matter to be over.”
