All diesel and petrol drivers given strict '90 day' rule to follow

A mechanic has given petrol and diesel drivers a strict "90 day" rule to follow. Drivers have been told by Scotty Kilmer, probably the most famous mechanic in the content creation space, not to use petrol or diesel that is "more than a few months old."

"Today I'm going to tell you why not to put old gasoline [petrol] in your car. Now, modern gasoline is a mixture of all kinds of additives and it typically has 10 percent ethanol," the mechanic has warned drivers in one of his YouTube videos.

"If you've got gasoline that has been sitting around for two to three months, you don't want to use it because it can clog up your fuel pump, your fuel filter and the fuel injectors. It's not worth it!"

He added: "So what do you do if you're parking your vehicle up for six to nine months or more? Well, you buy some fuel stabilization chemicals. You pour it in the tank when it's about half full and then you fill it to the top so there's less air in the tank when it oxidizes."

In reply, a viewer said: "I just put fuel stabilizer in my full gas cans and store them in a shady area. Same thing you’re doing with the stored car, really. Also, old fuel doesn’t hurt my lawnmower at all, so that’s where I use questionable gas."

"This is such great advice. I ruined a brand new lawnmower by using last years gas. And what did the guy tell me ???? Use a fuel stabilizer, and the gas will easily kerp for a year. So I started doing this and I have never had a problem. Listen to scotty. He is so right," another said.

"I’ve been using the fuel stabilizer even before they put ethanol in the fuel. I use it every year on my motorcycle. Never had a problem. The key is to top off the tank afterwords because as Scotty says it eliminates air in the fuel tank, but oxidation isn’t the main issue, condensation is why you want to fill your tank. You don’t want any room for condensation/moisture that will rust your tank," another said.
