Disney's anticipated buyout of 20th Century Fox will have a big affect on the future of Marvel's films, including the eventual inclusion of the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU.

But one thing it won't be affecting is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, according to director James Gunn.

He answered questions on Twitter relating to the MCU Phase Four film, revealing that he has no interest in incorporating X-Men characters into his next movie – including those that have been Guardians members in the comics.

He might not be interested in those characters at the moment, but interestingly he did credit Fox's control of the X-Men movie rights for allowing Guardians of the Galaxy to be made in the first place.

Gunn theorised that – if Marvel had maintained the X-Men and Fantastic Four rights – the MCU would have been too crowded to allow for a film based on a little-known property like Guardians to be made.

The Guardians will next be seen in Avengers: Infinity War, helping Earth's heroes battle the villain Thanos. They will also star in Avengers 4, with Guardians 3 set to follow as the second Phase Four film after the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

In the comics, X-Men member Kitty Pryde (who is due to receive her own solo film) temporarily became leader of the Guardians.

As Gunn also revealed, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will be released in 2020.
