Those looking to live the Disney lifestyle year-round can join a new residential community dreamed up by the company, but it's not next door to the theme parks.

Storyliving by Disney, a project that plans to build communities that will "cater to those looking to write [the] next chapter of their lives with Disney," announced its latest development on Wednesday.

The first Storyliving development was in California, but the second, dubbed Asteria, will be located in North Carolina, near Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. It's in the beginning stages of planning with Walt Disney Imagineering and DMB Development, according to a press release from Disney.

The release also notes that Asteria is “inspired by the spirit of discovery” and will be “designed to encourage exploration of the region’s natural beauty and spark life-long learning.”

Sales for homes in the community are expected to begin by 2027.

Storyliving’s first community, Cotino, was announced in February 2022 and will be located in Rancho Mirage in California's Coachella Valley, where Walt Disney himself owned a home.

“The announcement of the Asteria community builds upon strong initial interest for our first Storyliving by Disney community in California and will expand Disney-branded communities to the East Coast,” Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses, said in a statement. “Our team has been working closely with Disney Imagineers to develop a unique vision for this project inspired by Walt Disney’s innate curiosity and North Carolina’s spirit of discovery.”

Asteria is set to be built on 1,500 acres in the town of Pittsboro, in Chatham County, which the company says will offer residents metropolitan amenities with a small-town feel, plus plenty of parks and miles of trails for walking and biking. The development will be part of a larger community called Chatham Park.

More than 4,000 units will include both single-family and multi-family homes, and some sites will be designated for those aged 55 and up. Other perks will include a wellness and recreation center, restaurant, sport courts, swimming pools, a community garden and outdoor space intended for lawn games, events and fire pits.

While prices for units in Asteria haven't yet been revealed, the Storyliving website says single-family homes in Cotino are anticipated to range from the upper $1 millions to the lower $2 millions.

"For nearly 100 years, Disney has shared stories that have touched the hearts and minds of people all around the world," Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said in a statement last year, when Cotino was announced. "As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to storyliving.

"We can't wait to welcome residents to these beautiful and unique Disney communities where they can live their lives to the fullest," he added.
