Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Disney+ has ordered a second season of its family fantasy series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The adaptation of Rick Riordan's best-selling young-adult book, Sea of Monsters, will once again star Walker Scobell as teen demigod Percy, while Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri will reprise their roles as Annabeth and Grover.

"Rich in magic, wonder, adventure and heart, Percy Jackson and the Olympians captivated the imaginations of viewers of all ages everywhere," Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement Wednesday.

"We're thrilled to embark on an exciting new quest and a season two with Rick Riordan, our fantastic partners at 20th Television, and the exceptional ensemble of cast and creative talent that bring this story to life."

Riordan, who is an executive producer on the Greek mythology-themed series, recently told UPI he sees television as a better medium than film for his stories to be retold.

"I write episodically," Riordan said. "It makes sense that we would go from adventure to adventure, from episode to episode, and it's a much broader canvas for the story that we need to tell."

His wife, Becky Riordan, a fellow producer on the show, added: "Having one book be one season instead of a movie or an animation, we have more time to expand. We needed every second."
