Sylvester McCoy, the seventh Doctor Who, will be at the event and will be joined by Sophie Aldred, who played the seventh Doctor’s companion Ace. Further star guests are set to be announced in the lead-up to the show.
The event is set to transform the main exhibition halls at Coventry Building Society Arena into a haven for fans of everything Marvel, DC, Harry Potter anime and fantasy TV and film. The family-friendly event is organised by Monopoly Events, the UK’s number one fan convention company, and the Coventry show signals an expansion into the West Midlands.
David Bradley, who played Filch in Harry Potter and Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, will be the special guest at the event and Josh Herdman, best known for playing Gregory Goyle in Harry Potter, will also feature at Comic Con Mania Coventry.
Fans will be able to shop for collectibles, comics and more from a selection of over 200 traders at the exhibition, organisers say. There will also be a cosplay competition and parade with fans invited to come as their favourite characters and compete for the prize of Coventry cosplay champion.
Organisers will also be building replica sets of popular movies and TV shows for visitors to explore and take photos with. Andy Kleek, Founder and CEO of Monopoly Events, formed Monopoly Events in 2015.
He says it has experienced rapid growth since its first show and is set to host 40 events across the UK in 2024, including 23 pop culture shows, with plans for continued expansion in 2025. Andy said: “Our multi-day events have proved hugely popular across the country and have cemented our positions as the leading organisations of fan conventions in the UK.
“This has led to the launch of our Comic Con Mania one-day events which offer the same fan friendly, geektastic fund as our bigger shows and we’re incredibly excited to be coming to Coventry for the very first time. This is a one-day event packed with pop culture, gaming and entertainment for all ages. It’s a great day for the community and will give people from Coventry and across the West Midlands the opportunity to meet others who share their interests.
“It’s set to be a brilliant day, with David Bradley joining us as our headline guest, hundreds of traders and awesome set builds - a fun day out for all the family.” Jenni Ford, Director of Sales and Marketing at Coventry Building Society Arena, said: “It’s great to be welcoming Comic Con Mania to the venue for the first time and to be able to support Monopoly Events’ continued growth across the UK.”
