Doctor Who confirms Jinkx Monsoon's villain role
Doctor Who spoilers follow.
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has confirmed Jinkx Monsoon's villain role.
The two-time Drag Race winner will be starring in an upcoming episode titled 'The Devil's Chord', which brings The Doctor and companion Ruby Sunday to Abbey Road Studios to uncover a musical mystery.
While the show has previously hinted Jinkx would be playing The Doctor's "most powerful enemy yet", there has been an air of secrecy around the character until now.
In an interview with Empire, RTD has revealed that Jinkx Monsoon's character will be called Maestro.
"[Jinkx] actually stepped off the stage after a Broadway run of Chicago to get straight on a plane to be the character of Maestro in Doctor Who, and I think we can say she enjoyed that part somewhat," he said. "It’s a performance and a half!"

Series star Ncuti Gatwa was also full of praise for Jinkx Monsoon's performance, saying: "She absolutely blew us away. It was so cool to see her transfer her skill set to this show. She fits Doctor Who so well."
It's certainly curious that the character is called Maestro since the term directly translates to 'Master' — who viewers already know is one of the most notorious villains in the franchise history.
While The Master would certainly live up to the billing of The Doctor's "most powerful enemy yet", it remains to be seen whether Maestro and The Master are one and the same.

The Master has most recently been played by Sacha Dhawan, but the character has many faces like The Doctor. Sir Derek Jacobi, John Simm and Michelle Gomez have also played the role.
Doctor Who will return for its 14th series on May 11 at midnight, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
