Doctor Who has released the script that helped Ncuti Gatwa land the role of the Doctor.

The actor recently made his debut as the Fifteenth Doctor, with showrunner Russell T Davies previously revealing that he was wowed by the star's "astonishing" audition.

The BBC has now shared a number of new scripts for its Script Library, which includes the Davies-written scene that Gatwa read to bag the part.

In the eight-page-long piece, the Doctor is stuck in a room with a character called Robin, who is eventually revealed in a twist to be a monster called the Spikemaster.

There are also a number of ace pop culture references, including EastEnders, The Chase and Star Wars.

Speaking back in December about Gatwa's audition, Davies revealed that the Sex Education star clinched the role in just one go.

"I was very lucky that I did the audition with Ncuti and it was one of the most astonishing afternoons of my life because he was just so amazing," he told Digital Spy and other media.

"And to be in a room with you and to see you face to face. Folks, I've got to tell you, he did one audition, normally there's like 27 auditions. One. Because he just got it."

Speaking back in 2022 soon after Gatwa was announced, the showrunner recalled to Time: "I'd watched him on screen, and thought I had the measure of him, until he walked into the room for the Doctor Who audition. Bang! Thunderbolt.

"And bear in mind, for UK TV, the part of the Doctor is the Crown Jewels, it's history, it's tradition, it's... oh, sod that, I said, and threw it at him. He's conquered the world. Now all of time and space is his."

The actor's first full series as the Doctor is due to hit screens in May, having made his debut in full in Christmas episode 'The Church on Ruby Road'.

Doctor Who will return for its 14th series in May, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
