The Tardis has travelled through space and time, but it landed in Sheffield on Monday for the premiere of Doctor Who.

Jodie Whittaker, who will play the thirteenth Time Lord, posed alongside the iconic police box as she arrived to hundreds of screaming fans at The Light Cinema at The Moor.

Whittaker, 36, was joined by Bradley Walsh who will play her onscreen companion Graham when the hit show returns to BBC One later this year.

The pair were all smiles as they posed together on the red carpet with their co-stars Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.

The quartet proved they were the perfect match to take over from Matt Smith and his crew as they struggled to stop laughing for the cameras.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall was also in attendance, with Whittaker pulling him in for a photo in front of the Tardis.

Whittaker had managed to shrug off her lookalikes for Monday afternoon’s premiere having been flanked by 12 Doctor Who doppelganger’s earlier in the day.

The series premiere is titled The Woman Who Fell to Earth and is written by Chibnall and directed by Jamie Childs.

A trailer for the upcoming series dropped last week giving fans a glimpse of Whittaker in action taking on aliens and escaping explosions.

“I’m just a traveller,” she says. “Sometimes I see things need fixing – I do what I can.”

Doctor Who starts on BBC One, October 7
