Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has unveiled the secret guest stars fans can expect from the upcoming 60th-anniversary episodes.

The identities of the actors had been kept under wraps, but Davies finally spilled all during today's episode of BBC Morning Live (November 22) with hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley.

Swapping their dancing shoes for the TARDIS, Strictly Come Dancing stars Shirley Ballas and Johannes Radebe will be appearing in new episodes of the celebrated sci-fi show.

Teasing the announcement, Jones said there was "someone else in this studio" that would be appearing in the new episodes before Davies said, "Do you mean the top secret information that Shirley Ballas is going to appear on Doctor Who?"

Appearing shocked, Ballas then confirmed the news, saying: "Well, I can tell you the filming was one of the best days of my life."

The star has not confirmed anything about her character or storyline, but she did admit she will be sharing the screen with Strictly pro Radebe.

"We're doing a guest appearance with Jojo where I actually get to perform with [him] and so many other dancers on the show. I'm very, very excited for people to watch," she said.

Davies said he was on set that day as there was "no way [he] was missing that", but did not reveal which other dancers Ballas alluded to that feature in the episode.

Fans will also get their first look at Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor, as well as a whole host of surprises yet to be revealed.

Davies previously teased in a post on X (formerly Twitter): "This is just the start, as the fever starts to burn. We're heading for a November full of Doctor Who surprises, for fans and new viewers alike. Stay alert!"

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
